Belgian journalism cooperative Apache is going to be testing Bonfire as a space for its readers, inspired by #Jacobin work in Germany.
Independent media building community spaces where readers and journalists can meet, participate, and connect across the fediverse. This is the kind of social web we want to support.

@aud Oh this is the money quote tho:
"But in a book Kennedy published about four years ago, The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health, the now- health secretary harkens back to the miasma theory.
"Miasma theory emphasizes preventing disease by fortifying the immune system through nutrition and reducing exposures to environmental toxins and stresses," Kennedy writes."
How much should we worry about the pneumonic plague lableak in Siberia?

One of the coolest things about the open social web is your ability to make new algorithms to highlight the information you think is important. Being able to work on them as a team makes this even more powerful. This is great!

Our recap from the first event: @tarakiyee spoke about the ways in which open-source software, too, has extractivist effects on numerous levels. Even though software code is freely available, it often relies on unpaid labour. Furthermore, using it requires hardware, which in turn consumes resources in a way that is based on environmental destruction and mostly neo-colonial exploitation.
The three organising groups discussed ways to take action:

@jcsteelguitars Sorry to hear you're personally harmed by this; may I suggest suing for damages?
@simon @jcsteelguitars Yeah sounds like this guy is just being a spoiled attention seaking brat.
@Footle but you must understand, handwave handwave alleged similarity, you can't prooooooooove it isn't truuuuuuuuuuuuuuue
@davidgerard @Footle What, you think you're some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that? Mind tricks don't work on me.
@joshg I mean one can always hope.
@webmink I agree that aggressive slacktivism is pointless but seriously, do you have any clue to prove that taking part in those consultations has any impact, even minimal?
I might be biased by being french where fake democratic process are ordinary.
See the eu citizen initiatives, when did any change something? Stop killing games? Directly to the trashbin.
I never comment on @EUCommission posts or boost consultations but I would be happy to be proven wrong
Cc @edri what's your pov?
@lutindiscret
I have spent most of the last 4 years working on the CRA legislation and the standards that support it. That happened because the responses I and other open source figures made to the early CRA news persuaded Commissions stuff that they had missed something.
RIP #CharleneTheCat
I held Charlene in my arms, talking to her and giving scritches this morning as she passed in the vet's office. After 6 months of struggling with probable cancer, and a very rough week, she's now at peace. We both are. 💜
Snapped her final picture in the vet's office.
@TheEddieShow I'm so so sorry. Thank you for sharing such cute photos of her with all of us.

@jkb Yeah, I understand how they created light. It's the practical usability questions that I know nothing about.
The monsterdon film last night (House on Haunted Hill, 1959) had a number of chandeliers that had at least a dozen elements each.
Those must be a real pain in the ass to light if they've all got to be individually touched with a match.
@apLundell Sure sounds like a chore, but no less and no more than the same chandelier with candles instead of gas burners. Also with gas you could almost close the input valve so the burners stay lit but don't burn bright and you'd just have to open the valve again to get full brightness.
C'était un test, j'aurais dû réviser ^^
'One source in the party said ...
"The German Greens support arming Israel, opposed a ceasefire to Israel’s onslaught on Gaza, backed the suspension of funding to Unrwa and co-sponsored a Bundestag resolution describing the arguments and methods of the peaceful, Palestinian-led BDS campaign as antisemitic.”
@davidgerard What you need is multiple pictures of the horses in different arrangements and to change the background randomly every time the host looks away.
Never acknowledge the horses and always deflect questions about the horses.
Praise be to the horses.
@shammers you people just want me to work way too hard on this don't you
got dmitri long shostacovid

A lot of us in the free software space are stinging rn, watching slop worm its way into our communities, tools, perhaps even the philosophy itself. I'm seeing justifiably protectionist language like infiltration, infestation, infection. & while from a security standpoint, vibed code can oft be compared to digital asbestos, I find myself reaching more for organic vs inorganic (code), bc just as it's very hard to live without plastic, it's already very difficult to avoid slop in free software 1/n
I write this with plastic on my walls, around my food, in my body, on a device with plastic in its bones, running an aftermarket de-Googled ROM tainted with slop, on a federated network tainted with slop, provided by server infrastructure tainted with slop.
I monomaniacally run Debian GNU/Linux (26 yrs), which tragically recently took a soft hand on vibed code. I could switch to slopless Alpine, but it would just take a library, even transitive, and the plastic would be back in the body.
